I’m Dan, an English-Californian software engineer and entrepreneur who believes that healthy companies aren’t just better places to work—they do better work.
I’m currently CTO at TheGP, leading a team of forward-deployed engineers who work alongside early-stage founders to adopt AI and get the early architecture and team calls right. I also advise and consult with startups across industries—from healthcare and fintech to developer tools, AI, and even defense—on engineering management, org design, technical strategy, and architecture.
As a fractional CTO, I worked with companies like Float Health and Picture Health, guiding their teams through technical transformation and product growth.
I previously co-founded Range, an app that helps teams check in asynchronously, track goals, and run better meetings. Though now in maintenance mode, Range continues to serve customers and generate revenue—proof that good foundations endure.
Before that, I was Head of Engineering at the publishing platform Medium, during its early years, and earlier still a Staff Software Engineer at Google, where I worked on Gmail, Google+, and a variety of frontend infrastructure projects that support billions of users.
I hold an MA in Industrial Design from Sheffield Hallam University and a BSc in Artificial Intelligence from the University of Manchester. In past lives I raced snowboards, jumped out of planes, and lived in the jungle.
